PRODUCTION UPDATE

Hello!

I have decided to change up how I do things by amending production from made-to-order to ready-made.

This means that anything on the site is already made and ready to ship. I have a wee batch of black linen QH’s sewn up so far, ready to go. Am now working through a roll of silk-linen, so expect more QH’s and some Marsh pants in the grey soon too.

The best way to find out when something new is on this site is to sign up to the email list or just check back every so often. I will admit, have gotten a bit tardy with updates over on the ‘gram.

Some JG styles had 100+ plausible made-to-order combinations, from pockets (or no) to various lengths. It’s impossible for me to pre-produce all options under ready-made production. So going forward, there will be a singular length and pocket option for a style. However, if you’d like a specific length, etc email me at jeskagrue@gmail.com to see if I can put your request into a future batch.

This change largely stems from two events over the winter: a) I’ve gotten an arthritis in my hands! I’m still looking into it, it’s not too bad but I’ve had a type of eye arthritis for a decade and was warned to watch out. Of course, I’ve been doing what I need to do to take care when fingers decide to blow up. And b) my lovely old industrial machine broke down during one of our covid lockdowns when non-essential work travel across the provincial border into NS was prohibited, which is where the only industrial mechanic on the east coast is located. Instead, I took the time to learn how to fix myself (with some guidance from mechanic!) — which felt cool and powerful once complete! But in turn had to really scramble to not become very behind on orders.

It’s been enjoyable to sew made-to-order the past few years, the randomly assorted weekly to-do list with names of orderers attached was a treat. But I think a ready-made schedule will let me juggle surprises beyond my control much more … seamlessly? Haha. Also, this past year I’ve finally been sewing in a room large enough to house a big table, which means I can spread work out without the risk of confusing separate garment pieces together when sewing garments simultaneously! Ready-made may also help turn my wheels in the laborious yet fun undertaking of new research and design. Instead of styles and material lingering for years, I can work through them all at once.

So all things considered, that’s the change! Thanks for reading, here’s too the rest o’2021 :).
